Leverkusen CEO says Wirtz has no price tag

Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO, Fernando Carro, has confirmed that their key attacker Florian Wirtz is not for sale and is expected to stay with the club beyond this summer.

Carro had initially said that Leverkusen would ask for around 150 million euros this summer but has instead now said that is no longer the case: “I made a mistake when I said there’s a price tag for Florian Wirtz of around 150 million euros. In fact, he has no price tag for us.”

Wirtz, at the age of just 20, has been essential in helping Leverkusen win their first ever Bundesliga title this season as they try and go throughout the campaign unbeaten across all competitions with the DFB-Pokal final against Kaiserslautern next month and a UEFA Europa League semi-final coming up against Roma, too.

Wirtz, who won the UEFA European Under-21 Championships with Germany in 2021 in a tournament held in Hungary and Slovenia, has been capped 16 times for Die Mannschaft’s first-team.

In 30 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, Wirtz has scored 11 goals with 11 assists. He has 17 goals and 19 assists across all competitions, too.

There is also an expectation that the likes of Alex Grimaldo and Victor Boniface will remain at BayArena alongside their impressive coach, Xabi Alonso.
