Burnley overcome Sheffield Utd to move three points from safety

Burnley's hopes of staying in the Premier League took a huge boost after a convincing 4-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The Blades started strongly, with Arijanet Muric making important saves to keep Burnley in the game.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 38th minute when Jacob Bruun Larsen's shot deflected past goalkeeper Ivo Grbic and into the net.

Just two minutes later, Vincent Kompany's men doubled their lead as Lorenz Assignon maneuvered through the defence and poked the ball home.

Muric pulled off an exceptional save to deny James McAtee's powerful strike, but the hosts found a lifeline when Gustavo Hamer curled in a superb finish seven minutes into the second half.

However, Burnley quickly restored their two-goal cushion as Lyle Foster finished neatly from Assignon's cross, and substitute Johann Berg Gudmundsson added a delightful fourth goal.

With this result, Burnley remain in 19th place in the table, but they are now just three points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest. 

Meanwhile, Sheffield United stay rooted to the bottom, 10 points adrift of safety.
