Bolton are in pole position in their League One play-off semi-final against Barnsley after a 3-1 victory in the first leg at Oakwell on Friday night.
The Wanderers took the lead midway through the first half as Dion Charles found the net from close range, connecting with a superb cross from Paris Maghoma.
The Northern Ireland international doubled his tally eight minutes into the second half, converting from the penalty spot after Liam Roberts fouled Josh Sheehan.
The Tykes managed to pull one back with 15 minutes remaining, as Conor Grant set up Sam Cosgrove for a composed finish.
However, Bolton restored their two-goal cushion deep into stoppage time when Randell Williams scored a superb direct corner.
This result puts the Trotters in a favourable position heading into Tuesday evening's second leg at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
