Aston Villa further solidified their fourth place in the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over Midland rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park.
The hosts were keenly aware of the need to secure a win following Tottenham's late surge. They appeared to have taken the lead early on when Douglas Luiz found the net after Jose Sa saved Ollie Watkins' shot, but Watkins was ruled offside, and the goal was disallowed.
Wolves had their own chance to take the lead when Rayan Ait-Nouri found himself unmarked, but Villa's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made a superb save to deny them.
As the first half progressed, Villa grew into the game, and they eventually broke the deadlock when Moussa Diaby's powerful shot found the back of the net.
Although the visitors had opportunities in the second half, they were unable to find the equaliser.
Instead, Villa extended their lead with a well-executed move that ended in Ezri Konsa's chipped cross finding the net.
With this win, Villa now sit three points ahead of Tottenham in the table, having played one more game. They currently have 59 points from 30 matches, while Gary O'Neil's men, remain in 10th place with 41 points from 29 matches.
