Chelsea have announced that midfielder Enzo Fernandez will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2023-24 Premier League season due to a groin injury, following a "successful" surgical procedure.
Fernandez's absence adds to the growing list of injuries that have plagued manager Mauricio Pochettino's first season at Stamford Bridge.
The Argentinian midfielder, who joined Chelsea from Benfica for a British record transfer fee of £107 million in the winter of 2023, has featured in 40 matches for the Blues this season, scoring seven goals.
Argentina will be hopeful that Fernandez can recover in time for the Copa America tournament in the United States, scheduled for June and July.
