Newcastle move up to sixth in the table...

Burnley closer to relegation after Magpies win at Turf Moor

Newcastle United were too good for Burnley with Vincent Kompany's side looking in an increasingly precarious position.

The Magpies went into this game having put five past Sheffield United last time out and the Newcastle frontline was clinical once again at Turf Moor.

The visitors took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes after a surging run from Tino Livramento resulted in a low cross by Jacob Murphy that Alexander Isak met. Isak's close-range effort was straight at Arijanet Muric though with Callum Wilson on hand to finish off the rebound.

Newcastle's second came in the 35th minute when Murphy showed great strength in the box to hold onto the ball with Sean Langstaff profiting with a low shot into the corner.

It was 3-0 just a few minutes later after Burnley lost the ball just in front of their own box with Anthony Gordon then laying off the ball for Bruno Guimarães to bury into the left corner.

That goal effectively ended the contest by half-time with Eddie Howe's team then making it 4-0 just ten minutes into the second period.

This time it was a quick counterattack with Murphy's low ball into the area being collected and fired into the roof of the net by Isak.

The Clarets did manage to pull one goal back late on when Jón Gudmundsson's corner found Dara O'Shea whose looping header floated into the net.

With that 4-1 victory Newcastle moved into sixth place ahead of Manchester United who play Crystal Palace on Monday. Burney meanwhile are now five points from safety with just two games remaining – a return Championship is looking more and more likely.

xG: Burnley (1.36) 1-4 (3.69) Newcastle United

With Kompany's side struggling, it's a great position for us to be in. Let's keep this momentum going!
