Doncaster Rovers have placed themselves in a commanding position to secure a spot at Wembley for the League Two play-off final following a 2-0 victory in the first leg of the semi-final against Crewe at the Mornflake Stadium.
The breakthrough arrived for Rovers in the 35th minute, as Matthew Craig and Hakeeb Adelakun linked up, setting up Luke Molyneux for a first-time strike into the roof of the net.
Early in the second half, the visitors doubled their lead when Joe Ironside capitalised on a defensive error, driving into the penalty area before laying off the ball to Harrison Biggins, who made no mistake, slotting home from 15 yards with a composed finish.
Chris Long squandered Crewe's best chance late in the game by directing a header over the bar as Doncaster held firm until the end.
As a result, Grant McCann's side are the clear favourites to advance and potentially face the winners of the other semi-final clash between MK Dons and Crawley on Sunday, May 19th at Wembley.
Before looking ahead to a possible final, Doncaster must first complete the job as they host Crewe at the Eco-Power Stadium on Friday night.
