Szmodics strike stuns Leeds

Leeds United suffered a setback in their bid for automatic promotion from the Championship with a 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road. 

Despite dominating the first half and testing Blackburn's goalkeeper Aynsley Pears with several chances, Leeds couldn't find the net. 

The second half saw the hosts maintain their offensive pressure, creating additional opportunities to score. 

However, their efforts were thwarted when Blackburn's Sammie Szmodics found the back of the net with a composed finish eight minutes from time.

Despite a late push to salvage a point, Leeds couldn't muster a clear-cut chance, succumbing to their first league defeat at Elland Road this season.

This result leaves Daniel Farke's men in third place in the standings, one point behind Leicester City and Ipswich City, who have played fewer games. 

For Blackburn, the win was crucial for their survival as they now sit comfortably in 16th place, six points clear of relegation.
